Exposition collective franco-chinoise: 1964 - Une Longue Amitié

10 Oct - 10 Nov 2024

60 Years of Artistic Dialogue Between France and China.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of France’s recognition of the People’s Republic of China, A2Z Art Gallery is honored to present an exhibition celebrating the rich cultural dialogue between Chinese and French artists. This exhibition highlights the artistic exchanges, cultural reflections, and collaborations that have shaped these relations, grouping the artists into three categories: French artists influenced by China, Chinese artists residing in France, and Chinese artists who have collaborated with France.

In the first category, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Frank Perrin, Franck Scurti, and Bernar Venet, each explore the relationship between East and West in their own way. Through significant collaborations and conceptual explorations, they are part of a long tradition of intellectual and artistic exchanges between France and China.

The second section of the exhibition presents Chinese artists who have chosen France as their home, such as Li Donglu, An Xiaotong, Wang Du, and Ma Desheng. Their works, soon to be exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, reflect their ability to integrate influences from their Chinese cultural heritage into their artistic practices in France, thus building bridges between these two great cultures.

Finally, the exhibition highlights Chinese artists who, while living in China, have maintained close ties with France. Among them are Yang Mian, Du Zhenjun and Zhou Li, the latter having spent several years in France before returning to China. Zhou Li embodies a continuous aesthetic pursuit, combining visual poetry and intellectual depth. Her work, exhibited in prestigious venues such as the National Museum of Art of China and White Cube in London, perfectly encapsulates the blending of Chinese and French aesthetics.

Through these artists, this exhibition not only celebrates six decades of diplomatic relations between France and China but also emphasizes the richness of the cultural and artistic exchanges that have nurtured these creators. Their works represent a dialogue between tradition and modernity, between heritage and innovation, testifying to the profound impact of these exchanges on their artistic journeys.
