TAKASHI HARA: Cochons la voie !

23 Jan - 22 Feb 2020

A2Z Art Gallery is proud to present « Cochons la voie ! », the third solo exhibition of Japanese artist Takashi Hara (born in 1983, Tokyo).

Shapes, colors, gestures, letters and words, our eyes wirl from the image to the writing and then from the writing back to the image of Takashi Hara’s work. Interrogative, exclamatory and declarative phrases are combined in the acrylic paintings. Each work produced with energy reveals text based artworks, which let the sound of the writing resonate in our thoughts. That’s what the art historian and art critic Jean-Pierre Criqui evokes. He names it « acoustic images ».

But who is talking ? In his compositions strongly inspired by American neo-expressionist aesthetic harmonized with both the Japanese punk spirit and Zen wisdom, Takashi Hara makes the pigs talk. According to the artist, Pigs are the closest animals to human. Playing the role of intercessor between our animal and intellectual condition, the pig figures are humanised by the artist, questioning the rhythm of the artist’s thoughts and dreams.

Do these animal’s voices help us to get out of our primary ways of thinking and begin to think about the world differently? Do they invite us to perceive a world which is detached from the material?

Through this way of listening the environment and to face ourselves, we confront our animal fears, we assert ourselves, reconnecting with one another on a human level.

Let’s listen to the pigs!
