MA Desheng

Born in Beijing in 1952, Ma Desheng is one of the first contemporary Chinese artists to release Chinese art from Maoist propaganda. Suffering from a serious illness at a young age compelling his mobility to crutches, the artist restricts neither his productivity nor his creativity. Not short of strength and courage, this great man and artist has had a very complicated life. Poet, engraver, calligrapher, painter and performer, Ma Desheng embodies for a model of combativeness and creativity. He dedicates his life to art by forming the group named "Stars”, in which he was with Wang Keping, Ai Wei Wei, and Huang Rui, three of the major pillars of this intelligentsia.

First of all, as an autodidact, he began his career as a draftsman and then as an engraver. Following the exchange with other internationally renowned Chinese artists, Ma Desheng's work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions, international fairs and collected by the world's museums.
